Ruth Waller was born on 19 August 1921 in California. She died in Aug 1948 in the City of Minsk, Belarus.Very little is known beyond this photograph. It is believed that she was a Jewish girl who joined forces with a charitable group to deliver clothing and food to those in need after World War II.

Ruth was a member of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration Mission to Belarus in 1946 and she died in the prime of her life from a fatal disease contracted after saving a drowning Belarusian child. She lies at the Central Cemetery in Minsk. The US Embassy here commemorates her passing on the 4th of August every year. I currently reside in Minsk. darkcavalry_6@msn.com
