Germany, Brandenburg, Bernau bei Berlin, Jewish Records, 1688-1872

 

Another great database for Jewish researchers has been added to the Historical Collection at www.familysearch.org. The collection is the Germany, Brandenburg, Bernau bei Berlin, Jewish Records, 1688-1872. A new database, this collection is not yet name search able but the first 2000 images have now been added.

This collection is records from the Brandenburg Main State Archive, and includes all types of records. The official description of the collection is shown below.

Knowles Collection update

The growth of the Knowles Collection continues. Today, three of the individual databases were updated with new records. The increase in numbers comes from many sources, including a large number of cemetery records and the addition of the remainder of the records of the 1869 Hungarian Census. 
 The databases and the new number of people included in the records are:

• Jews of the Caribbean and South America   18,939
• Jews of the South Pacific                                 18,572
• Jews of Africa and the Orient                         15,934

In addition, over the next week the databases for the other three databases will also be updated. Those databases and the number of people included are:

• Jews of the British Isles       157,249
• Jews of North America        246,000
• Jews of Europe                    158,000

Barbados Jewish Records at FamilySearch.org

For those who are looking for more records of their Jewish ancestors in the Caribbean, more records are now available at www.familysearch.org. Actually the records have been there for about 5 months, but they are well hidden. The record collection is Barbados, Church Records, 1637-1887.
The collection does indeed include the records of the Jews in Barbados. The years covered are births 1830-1884 and deaths 1685-1886. As of today there are images, however they have not been named indexed.

The records for the Jews are very easy to use. They are in order by date of the event and the handwriting is very readable. The two records below show an example of each type.

This database should be very valuable for those with early Jewish families in the Caribbean and especially for those with ancestry from Barbados.

Photocopies from the Family History Library

Yesterday,  the Family History Library (FHL) in Salt Lake City, Utah announced a new policy on ordering photocopies from sources within their collection. In a post that appeared on the FamilySearch blog, Merrill White, announced that if a patron is willing  to receive a digital copy of the item through email, it will now be provided free of charge. He states;

"All requests for information copied from films, book pages, CDs, marriage, death or birth certificates, wills and/or deeds, etc. will be copied in digital format and emailed to patrons in a zipped PDF or JPG file format. There is no charge for this service if we are able to email to information to patrons."
